This page contains answers to common questions handled by our support staff, along with some tips and tricks that we have found useful and presented here as questions.

  1. How is a text message read out to the recipient

The Txt2Fone network uses very sophisticated text to speech technology to read out your text to the recipient. For instance the following text message "Darling I have just left the office. Put the kettle on. c u in 5 minutes. Love  John." would be read out like this. For best results put lots of commas and full stops in the text.

  2. When I sent a Text to a landline phone what happens if the line is engaged or doesn't answer
The Txt2Fone network will automatically detect this and retry several times to deliver your text message. You can obtain an online report here on the delivery status of the SMS Text Messages you send to landline phones

  3. How do people receiving a text message on their Home phone reply to my text?

After your message is read out to them, they have the option to speak a reply message which will be sent as an email to your email address with an attached mp3 file (audio file) containing the reply audio message.

  4. How much does it cost to Text a Landline phone
It's Free to use as a long as your MobileSaver account has credit.

  5. How do I send FREE SMS text messages over GPRS
If you have a java compatible phone, then this is the recommended method as sending data over GPRS is cheaper than SMS. You need to download Txt2Fone - our java (J2ME midlet) application. Txt2Fone can be download directly to your phone by point your handset's Internet browser to this address: http://discount-telecom.co.uk/txt2fone.jad

  6. How do I send FREE FAX messages from my mobile phone
If you have a java compatible phone, then this is the recommended method. You need to download fax - our java (J2ME midlet) application. Fax can be download directly to your phone by point your handset's Internet browser to this address: http://discount-telecom.co.uk/fax.jad

  7. What is General Packet Radio GPRS Service
Is - as the name implies - a packed switched network and therefore designed specifically to send and receive packet data, at network speeds of about 54,000 bps: a newer and considerably quicker way of sending and receiving information using a mobile connection.

As with ADSL (or broadband), this is an "always on" connection. It is not billed by the minute but by the amount of data being sent and received. So with GPRS you pay as you consume - e.g. at the rate of £2.55 plus VAT for every Mb of data you send or download, making these mobile data services quite economical for 160 character text messaging like out Txt2Fone Java application.

  8. Can I brand Txt2Fone and implement it as a service in my own website?

Yes. We will provide you with HTTP API and sample code to implement Txt2Fone on your own website. Please contact us for details.
